Ban the speechwriter

I was reading a profile of Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau by stenographer Ashley Parker in an essay titled What Would Obama Say?  During the interview, Ashley may have unwittingly captured a profound utterance.      The following quote was attributed to Jon Favreau,  "The trick of the speechwriting, if you will, is making the client say your brilliant words while somehow managing to make it sound as though they issued straight from their own soul" (Glenn, C., 2nd edition, pg.131).      How many times have the American public been treated to the oratory salve of a leader staring squarely into a camera reading from a teleprompter and believed the words emanating from our visual media?       The disconnect is the guttural hope that the speaker may actually believe what is being spoken. Sadly, they're marionettes putting on a performance.  The Bible tells us that what comes out of the mouth is originated in the heart; however, these polished performers are no more than c

Election, Elección, Élection

A broad overview of the domestic and geo-political implications of this year's election along with some somber questioning.      First, I am having serious doubts about the efficacy of a Biden/Harris taxing protocol. The US budget's outlays are roughly 20 percent of an expected GDP of $20Trillion. I do not see a path forward anywhere, where we can come close to that collection of revenue while maintaining such output. Years ago, it became illegal for long-term care facilities to seize the assets of a patient to help pay for cost of care; however, under a B/H administration I wholly expect that grandchildren will watch their grandparents wealth building mechanisms be seized by the state under taxing authority in a bid to offset Medicare expenses. I understand we have medical bankruptcy now as a country and such a proposition disgusts me; with that said, there is a reason Medicare Gap insurance exists (Medicare is rationed) and above a certain income threshold Medicare enroll

True Grit

Broken body – I’ve been there. Broken mind – I’ve been there. Broken esteem – I’ve been there.  Broken faith – I’ve been there Broken relationships – I’ve been there.  Broken career – I’ve been there.  Too embarrassed to reach out to close friends because I had been struggling – I’VE BEEN THERE! As I rode my mountain bike today being able to lean on my handlebars with minimal pain in my chest for the first time in 10 months, I couldn’t help but to think of all the obstacles I’ve overcome and the personal growth that I have experienced. At the very least, I’ve most definitely become more sympathetic and empathetic.  I’ve had the full use of my legs ripped from me due to my military service and will never have a pain free day the rest of my life. I’ve come to grips with it and have learned what works and doesn’t work to aggravate the condition. And because I do not want to take away from the men and women with “boots on the ground” injuries, mine was actually creat

In Defense of God

The atheistic reductionist view of the Creator of the Universe and dulling Him down as an anthropomorphic, Father-Time old man wagging his finger in the sky, is just as elementary and crude as the ‘Flying Spaghetti Monster’ moniker given to Him. It reduces His awesomeness and majesty to that of the old man yelling “get off my lawn.” I, too, would be wary to worship and follow the edicts of a ‘Flying Spaghetti Monster.’ Some would even call such a thought ludicrous. And yet, that is the argument I hear repetitiously from those who would demolish the pillars of my faith to the ground and have me pilloried in the town square as some voluminous lunatic. When a Yogi repeats a mantra in an effort to obtain mindfulness, he is viewed as enlightened and free. Yet, when a follower of Christ is at the altar repeating prayers   seeking guidance, he is viewed with contempt and almost sympathy for being ‘less educated.’ There are a myriad of things being heralded today as New Age Wisd

Will Logical Thinkers Please Stand Up, Please Stand Up

First and foremost my heart breaks for the victims and their families. More unique lives taken. There will never be another with their genetic makeup and personality. Their potential is lost to the hopes and dreams of their parents and those who knew them best.  Guns can be dangerous. So can alcohol, tobacco, and explosives; hence, why we have an entire government bureau dedicated to the safe use, selling, and managing of those items. We also have an FDA for the regulation of drugs; yet, when an individual is rumored or known to be taking  psychotropics  commits an atrocity, the silence is deafening from the medical field and MSM. How about we start the conversation. " in 15-24 year-olds there was a distinct increase - of 43 percent - in their risk of committing violent crime while on the medication. " The rest of the story can be found here . Now I'm not berating  antidepressants. They play a huge role in helping individuals live wholesome, quality lives. I also do

Harley Chronicles

Image
It's a low rumbling, V-twin, Harley song; Beckoning my name at the crack of dawn. As the V-twin pistons roll, Begging the question, “For whom does our low rumble toll?” It’s speaks to me on my pathos side, Calling me out, “it’s time to ride.” The Eastern sky is turning light, While the Western is still bathed in the cool of night. The taillights are lit up red and the handlebars are smooth, That Harley song’s lyric is a simple, “it’s time to cruise.” I zip up my Harley Owner’s Group coat and take in a deep breath. My heartbeat matches the rumble, and my body is feeling at rest. image source: https://www.asphaltandrubber.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/harley-davidson-logo-blank.jpg

Pouring Salt in American Wounds

It's Tuesday, October 17, 2017. A nice Pennsylvania fall day that is crisp, not quite chilly, with blue skies and just a touch of a breeze to make the tops of trees swing. As I look around, I can't help but think.. Ah crap! Russia meddling in the U.S. election was/is real and was helped by paid American activists. This recently breaking story of Russian meddling really pours salt into our wounds. According to  The Guardian's  article ,  " Russian troll factory paid US activists to help fund protests during election"   our very own turned against us.   Why does this pour salt into a wound you may ask? Well, I - like many other Americans  (I hope)  - just want some stinkin' stabilization to soon set in on our political landscape. Everywhere one turns there seems to be some sort of  -ism  or  -phobe  hanging out in the ether just waiting to be plodded into conversations so that its ubiquitous showings can continue to occur.  Right, wrong, or indifferent; it
